George Strait to join The Safe Haven at Austinites Against Trafficking

AUSTIN, Texas–– The Safe Haven will be joined by legendary country artist George Strait at this years Austinites Against Trafficking hosted by the City of Austin at Mercury Hall in Austin on May 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will be a benefit for victims of human trafficking and also act as a fundraiser for The Safe Haven. Strait will be performing after the event and hosting a fundraiser of his own benefiting various Austin trafficking support groups. This will be The Safe Havens third year sponsoring the event after wild success last year with over $50,000 in donations and attendance levels over 10,000.

"This cause is very dear to me and I'm happy to be apart of it this year. I hope we can all come together against this horrible issue and remind those affected that they aren't alone. I admire the work of The Safe Haven and the Austin Police Department for their tireless efforts against trafficking", said Strait.

The event will be providing informational materials on human trafficking as well as a special "See Something, Say Something" conference by the APD on what to do if you see someone that might need help. Local Austin vendors will be on-site with food and beverages for participants, as well as activities for the family like crafts and games.

The Safe Haven Group to hold donation drive

SAN MARCOS, Texas–– The Safe Haven Group will hold an arts festival and donation drive at Sewell Park

to raise awareness for human trafficking in surrounding cities Saturday, September 9 at 2 p.m.

The event will include live poetry, art experiences, music and handmade goods by Safe Haven members

to give back to San Marcos in an effort to raise donations for the group. Informational materials and

fact sheets on human trafficking will also be provided. All profits and donations will feed directly back

into the group to continue to provide the resources needed to support its members and staff.

“We want to celebrate and uplift our community members through art and creativity. Through this donation

drive, we’re able to give back to the city and raise awareness around a problem most people aren’t very

informed on in the best way possible,” said Abbie Amsler, co-founder of The Safe Haven.

Donations will help provide resources for the group like counseling services, educational tools and

programs and much more. They are requesting items like new or gently used clothing and shoes, feminine

hygiene products, baby wipes, soap, toothbrushes, hair care products, children's clothing, books and

anything else that could be used to enrich the program.
